One day we were walking through the frozen food section in Whole Foods, wishing that our some health-conscious, some vegan, some lactose intolerant selves could partake in the wonders of all that was ice cream when we stumbled upon these cute little cups that gloriously proclaimed “Raw Vegan Ice Cream”.

On the outer edge of what’s affectionately known as the “gayborhood” of center City Philadelphia is flashback/flash-forward swankster bar and restaurant El Vez. One of many wine and dine locales created by Steven Starr Restaurants, this awesome little destination is what you get when you take Brady Bunch sensibilities and force them to drink Patrón with the movie “Dazed and Confused”…and then mate.

When in San Diego—either visiting or living—one stop that needs to be added to the list for dinner or lunch is Pokéz Mexican Restaurant on 10th and E street, on edge of the East Village. And on the edge it is appropriately placed, as this place brings a new definition to “diamond in the rough” with it’s local punk art-decorated decor to it’s heavily tattooed staff that will so much as tell you what you want instead of ask you.
